About This Project

North Beach Town Center East Tower

The purpose of the project is to create a development that retains the heritage of North Beach by restoring and adapting historic structures and adding a new 14 story modern tower that fully integrates into the fabric of the already existing vibrant neighborhood. The architecture takes cues form the scale of the historic structures as well as pays homage to the details of art deco influence by providing dynamic apertures that reinterpret the style in a modern fashion. The building above the podium steps back to provide relief to the street edge and maintain the existing scale of the retail lined streets of North beach. The modern tower has an expression of cantilevered balconies that reach out past the building providing unique and distinct features along the facade. All together the design adds character to the area without removing the history and ambiance of the neighborhood.

The project is comprised of several isolated components including a new, fourteen-story mixed-use building proposed to be located behind the two-existing commercial/office buildings fronting 71 st Street that are both proposed to remain, as well as an existing surface parking lot. The entire subject property consists of eight parcels, five along Abbott Avenue and three along Harding Avenue. The historic Gidney and City National Bank building will be retained and brought back to their historic glory as prized pieces of art deco and brutalist architecture.
