The tabletop helipad at Lahey is one of only three of its kind in New England and six in the US.
Helicopters previously landed on the Lahey campus a short distance away, which makes an ambulance transfer — with its inherent risks — necessary. The new helideck, which is just 18-ft. off the ground and directly adjacent to the ED, is an upgrade to the existing helipad because it will enable the hospital to reduce transfer times by not having to rely on elevator transport from the roof to the emergency room. The project also calls for a modest expansion of 365 square-feet to the existing MRI service building.
