About This Project

Orthopedic ASC & MOB

Waltham, MA

Boston Out-Patient Surgical Suites (BOSS) partnered with CUBE 3 to develop an 8 OR, 28 PACU bay Ambulatory Surgical Center. The project’s intent was driven by a focus of patient-centric design and integration of innovative technology to provide comprehensive same-day surgical care across a wide range of specialties.

The 40,000sf ground level ASC is flanked by a triple-height lobby providing openness to patients and staff with ample natural light as well as intimate alcoves which speak to the human scale. The lobby was designed with upsized infrastructure in mind to allow for the addition of a future Café to serve both Staff and Patients.

Boston Orthopedic & Spine (BOS), and Boston Bone & Joint Institute (BBJI) in collaboration with CUBE 3 then developed two levels of Medical Office space above which includes 2 Procedure rooms, 5 X-Ray rooms, and 50 exam rooms. The mission of both suites was to promote collaboration between the end users & clinics with maximized workflows and patient visibility & advocacy. Both BOS and BBJI share views from their respective main lobbies into the three-story atrium further enhancing this orthopedic ecosystem.

The ASC and MOB above were meticulously laid out to provide separation between Staff and Patients with dedicated elevators from the sub-grade parking levels into staff corridors leading to their new conference rooms, lounges, locker rooms and future roof deck, allowing for seamless back of house staging.
