About This Project

South Shore Hospital West Expansion

Weymouth, MA

This long-awaited expansion has doubled bed capacities for both inpatient and observation care within the hospital’s McKim Family Building. The Emergency Department continues to support SSH’s Level II Trauma Center, making it one of the busiest in the area.

The intent of this expansion was to provide a central node of nurse stations for optimal patient observation. Clerestory punch-outs at the suites’ exterior walls allow much-needed light to carry into the existing space. Additional scope included the design and coordination of a new air handling unit situated directly outside the Emergency Department.
